This position can be virtual but it is preferred that is in location, Hartfort, CT or vicinities to facilitate training and supervision by Publisher who resides In Simbsbury, CT; Boulder CO is the other Press' location.

MVP -- www.mvpress.org- is the nonprofit publishing arm of Americas for Conservation + the Art. The Press is one of only a handful of publishers dedicated to advancing diversity and conservation in publishing. Its publishing program connects the literature of the Americas--uniting the works of the best writers of Latin and Latino America with the leading ethnic and minority writers of North America through the publication of the best books and translations on the environment, conservation, culture, history, memoir, fiction, science, and politics. Publishing between four to eight titles in fiction and nonfiction each year, MVP issues works that are extraordinary and influential, works that are destined to become the classics of tomorrow.

Editorial Assistant Major Responsibilities:

* Perform clerical tasks such as copying, filing, processing invoices, handling mailings, and dealing with book project paperwork

* Coordinate reviews on new book projects and revised editions

* Correspond with authors

* Research content, editing copy, and proofreading

* Assist editors with product planning, development, sales, and marketing

* Prepare manuscripts for production and acting as liaison to the production team

* Provide other administrative support as needed

Required Skills / Knowledge:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Close attention to detail
* Ability to multi-task
* Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
* Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
* Some Experience with new media products and social media

Experience Needed:

* Previous studies, experience and/or internships in publishing a plus but not necessary



Educational Background Required:

* Bachelor of Arts degree- English majors strongly preferred; currently enrolled in college okay

AFC+A and its main four programs, the annual Americas Latino Eco-Festival ALEF (leveraging the arts and Latino leadership for conservation gains) Mandel Vilar Press MVP (advancing diversity and conservation in publishing), United Cultures for Arts + Nature Youth Ambassadors U-CAN (growing the next generation of diverse eco leaders), Latina Environmental Giving Circle LEGC (powering Latina environmental stewardship) aim at environmental and multicultural education and a diverse, non segregated, and inclusive conservation agenda.
