WildCare Volunteer Nature Guides Needed! (Ages 18 and Older)

WildCare Volunteer Nature Guides Orientation, September 15, 2018- Sign Up Now!

Teach children to love nature... people take care of what they love!" - Elizabeth Terwilliger

Learn the renowned multi-sensory teaching techniques of famed naturalist and environmentalist Elizabeth Terwilliger and share the beauty and wonder of nature with small groups (5-8) of elementary school children by leading fun hikes full of exploration and adventure. WildCare's Terwilliger Nature Guide training will teach you all about the plants, animals, habitats and ecology of Northern California and give you the opportunity to share that knowledge with eager children! All training is provided.

TRAINING STARTS IN SEPTEMBER
Volunteering as a Nature Guide will not only introduce you to some of Marin and Sonoma counties' most beautiful hikes, it will also allow you to:

* meet other nature lovers and cultivate new friendships
* expand your own knowledge and awareness of nature
* experience personal and professional growth
* participate in continued learning
* be invited to special WildCare events
* practice field identification techniques for local wildlife
* learn innovative outdoor teaching techniques
* gain practical experience in leading small groups of children

This extensive training, provided over eight half-day training sessions - indoors and outdoors -starts after an orientation. Throughout the training, WildCare's naturalists and guest speakers will share expertise on plants and animals in their different habitats, and early Native Americans' relationship to the land. There is a nominal fee to cover the training and materials. Once training is completed, WildCare asks Nature Guides to commit to a maximum of two 3-hour hikes a month, scheduled in advance over a period of 1 year. All hikes take place on weekday mornings. Orientation this year is Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 11:00 to 12:30 at WildCare in San Rafael.
