St. Vincent de Paul's Kitchen prepares hot meals to be served in our Free Dining Room, Tuesday through Saturday. Located in one of the most distressed neighborhoods in Northern California, the Free Dining Room serves nearly 600 meals on average per day. The kitchen also caters special events for SVdP and the community. Come help our chefs and kitchen staff prepare food for the following day's lunch service. This is a great volunteer opportunity for people with experience in commercial kitchens, or for those who are considering a career in commercial kitchens.
Volunteers will be asked to:
- Assist with a variety of food preparation tasks, including chopping vegetables and fruit, shredding meats, and arranging trays of baked goods.
- Sort and organize incoming food donations.
- Help with kitchen clean-up tasks.
Time: 2-4 hour shifts between 9am and 1pm are available Tuesday - Saturday
Commitment: One time and ongoing volunteers are welcome
Volunteers will attend an orientation and receive training on their first day of service.

Mission Statement
St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County is dedicated to serving the men, women and children of Alameda County.
Description
A non-profit, community-based organization, St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County (SVdP) offers emergency and social safety net services to its neighbors, relying on a vast network of volunteers to carry out our mission. We operate a free dining room, thrift stores, an e-waste recycling program, men and women's drop-in centers, workforce and culinary training programs and much more. St. Vincent de Paul serves everyone regardless of origin, creed, or affiliation. Our staff and volunteers are a diverse and talented group, representing a wide range of experiences and perspectives.
St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam, a 20-year-old student of the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. Similar groups began to form in Paris, then spread throughout France, and eventually throughout the world.
Volunteers, known as Vincentians, are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility, and sharing. St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County was founded in 1938, and has been serving the community of Oakland ever since.
