Deadline is January, 2017 The selection process is competitive. We take 15 instructors per program - Don't wait to apply! What it looks like!
New Volunteer training include evidence-based theory, and curriculum that include: privilege and equity training; the history of rape in our culture; the impact of trauma; prevention of sexual assault; domestic and intimate partner violence; child abuse; bullying behaviors, gang involvement; and human trafficking.
This training also includes learning physicals skills and the how to teach the curriculum. topics include: teaching and learning strategies, classroom management, physical and non-physical self-defense skills. The training is open to women of all ages and backgrounds.
WomenStrength has a 35 year history of teaching personal safety workshops to men and women and free self-defense classes to women of all ages and backgrounds. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and be part of the Portland Police Bureau. Many of our instructors have volunteered for over five years! Many have moved into new positions and careers as a result of their participation in these programs.
Training dates: February 2-March 22
Classes: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 pm-10 pm and Saturdays, 9am-5 pm.
Graduation: Wednesday, April 5, 6-9 pm, Justice Center, Portland

The WomenStrength and GirlStrength Programs are violence prevention programs operated through the Family Services Division of the Portland Police Bureau. The programs offer free classes and workshops for men, women boys and girls.
