Join us in harvesting surplus crops from farms to families in eastern Massachusetts! We organize weekly volunteer trips to farms in eastern MA to harvest and sort through their donated produce. No experience is necessary! All volunteers are trained on each trip to safely and properly harvest and handle the produce.
To Register: Visit our website (www.bostonareagleaners.org) and click "Get Involved".
Once you are registered, we will email you whenever there are gleaning opportunities or you can check our website.
During our busy season (August through December), we typically glean Thursday-Monday. There can be anywhere from 1-3 trips per day in both the AM and PM. Each trip is 3 hours long, which does not include drive time to and from the farm.
Volunteers are able to help out whenever their schedule allows. Once the schedule is posted, you pick the day, time, crop and location!
Looking forward to having you out with us this season!
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
About Boston Area Gleaners, Inc.
240 Beaver St., Waltham, MA 02452, US
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing surplus farm crops for people in need.
We deliver high quality, local produce to pantries and meal programs by working closely with local farmers, providing volunteer labor to harvest what would otherwise be plowed under. To learn more about our work, please visit our website.
When farmers have surplus produce that they would like to donate, they contact our Gleaning Coordinators and we organize staff-supervised volunteer trips to go out to those farms and harvest and/or sort through storage crops. All of the produce that we glean from farms is donated to our partner hunger relief agencies.
Interested volunteers are encouraged to sign up on our website. Farmers interested in donating to us can also do so on our website.
We'll work with your schedule.
