About

Legacy is seeking passionate, caring individuals to join our team as volunteers. Would you like to be one of them?

Legacy Hospice provides care to all age groups during the final stages of life, including children, adults, and the elderly. Our patients will have an experienced team of physicians, registered nurses, certified nurse aides, medical social workers, counselors, and trained volunteers available to help patients and their family members .

Our physician and Legacy staff work with patients to set up a comprehensive plan of care to manage symptoms and assess the needs of the family. Our patient's family or another caregiver will be with the patient, and members of our team will make regular visits to ensure their comfort. A nurse and a physician are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to give patient and family support and care.

Even though a physician is a part of the Legacy team, our patient's can choose to use their regular physician to direct their care. Legacy will work closely with our patient's regular physician to give the care that is needed.

In addition to applying here, you can also apply to be a volunteer directly online by visiting www.legacy-hospice.com and filling out a volunteer application under the "Volunteer" section of the site.

There are Two Types of Volunteers

1. Patient Care Volunteers are part of a patient’s care team. They make home visits to offer companionship for patients and relief for caregivers. Examples of patient care volunteer opportunities include reading to the patient, assisting with a hobby, listening, running errands, or grocery shopping.

2. Organizational Volunteers do not work directly with patients and families. Examples of organizational volunteer opportunities include work in Legacy’s office to support our care team or help patients and families through indirect support, such as assisting with Legacy’s Transitions program, creating special memories for holidays, patient birthdays and anniversaries, planting flowers or mowing a yard for a patient that is unable to continue doing so, and helping with other needs of our patients and families.

Our patients and their families reside in their homes, assisted living and nursing home facilities across central Virginia. We are always seeking volunteers in surrounding counties as well as in Charlottesville.
