We need someone to coordinate our volunteer activities - scheduling, introducing new volunteers, organizing volunteer recognition events, and to build our volunteer force.
The volunteer coordinator will work with the president of the organization to cultivate volunteers so that they feel appreciated and rewarded for their time. Of course, volunteering is its own reward but we want people to feel really good about what they do.
Rabbit volunteers are hard to come by so it's very important that they are signed up to volunteer as often as possible and that they are well taken care of. The volunteer coordinator will act as liaison between the volunteers and the founder of the organization to take corrective measures when volunteers violate policies set in place to protect the rabbits.
Despite the difficulty in getting and retaining volunteers, we cannot let one volunteer sabotage the mission of our organization or cause trouble between other volunteers. The best way to prevent any such violations is to properly screen volunteers in the first place.
The volunteer coordinator can help solicit donations of food from local merchants, order and get donations for t-shirts for volunteers, find creative rewards for volunteers who do the most difficult work, solicit volunteers from local colleges and universities.
All these activities are not required--this is an unpaid, volunteer position--but this is a suggestion of some of the ways that this position can be developed.
A successful volunteer coordinator will be able to use this experience to obtain a paying job as volunteer coordinator or in another form of employment.
