iCan Shine Bike Camp is a program designed to teach individuals with disabilities how to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle--approximately 80% of LTTW participants can successfully balance and pedal 40 feet on a two-wheel bike by the end of the weeklong program. All this is accomplished with volunteers like you! Volunteers act as spotters, walking (and later running, as participants progress) alongside the rider, catching the rider if he or she begins to fall, and offering encouragement.
There are five sessions each day from Monday-Friday. We need some volunteers to commit to the week, since relationships tend to develop between volunteers and participants, facilitating success. Other volunteers can choose to help with whichever sessions they prefer, communicating their time preference(s) ahead of time. Here are the session times:
Session 1 8:30am-9:45am
Session 2 10:05am-11:20am
Session 3 11:40am-12:55pm
Session 4 2:00pm-3:15pm
Session 5 3:35pm-4:50pm
There will be a volunteer training time on Sunday, June 17th at 2:00pm. It is suggested, not mandatory, that volunteers attend.
Other volunteer positions open include helping with administrative needs.
For more information on how to sign up for the camp or any other questions, please contact Kendall Kisor at kendall@dspnt.org or call 682-316-3121.
