The Firecracker Foundation

The Firecracker Foundation is a 501(c)3 charity with the mission of honoring the bravery of children who have survived sexual trauma by building a community invested in the healing of their whole being.

Description of Responsibilities:

Title IX Advocates assist students in filing federal Title IX sexual harassment and assault complaints to their schools administrators. Advocates aid families seeking resolution from the time of the incident through satisfactory resolution.

Time Commitment: This job description is a volunteer position for The Firecracker Foundation. Estimated time commitment varies from case to case, but a commitment of 3 hours/week is estimated. Cases may be shared among more than one Advocate.

Job Qualifications:

Title IX Advocates should have professional experience in the following areas:

  • Some understanding, experience or training on the dynamics of sexual assault
  • Previous experience in case management
  • Ability to speak to large groups of people
  • Record keeping and timely report filing
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation
  • Must be committed to the concept of empowering adult and child victims and be able to relate to individuals of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability and commitment to follow a client case over a period of months
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with other service providers, attorneys and other community agencies
  • On-call responsibilities to provide timely response to cases as they occur.
  • Flexible schedule may include some evenings and weekends.

Duties:

  • Respond to Title IX hotline calls made to the Firecracker Foundation regarding Title IX complaints from students, parents or caretakers.
  • Provide support, coordination and assistance with uniform policies to ensure standard level of survivor-centered advocacy services and coordination at schools throughout Eaton, Ingham and Clinton Counties.
  • Provide support as requested with system partners in creating a community that is aware of and understands Title IX Federal Civil Rights laws and responsibilities.
  • Complete all training sessions held by The Firecracker Foundation
  • Attend periodic Title IX meetings at The Firecracker Foundation
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Executive Director

Description

The Firecracker Foundation offers free, high quality mental health services and trauma sensitive yoga therapy for children under the age of 18 who have survived sexual trauma in the tricounty area.

The Foundation also works to provide trauma informed training and prevention skills to community members seeking to participate in preventing child sexual abuse and advocating for survivors. Advocacy programs include Pediatric Medical Advocacy and Title IX Advocacy in schools for children K-12.
