Mission Statement

Transforming lives and building community through housing and the arts

Description

Safe Harbors of the Hudson, an innovative 501c3, affordable housing organization in the City of Newburgh, NY was established in 2000 with the mission of transforming lives and building communities through housing and the arts. The initial project began in December 2002, when Safe Harbors purchased the Hotel Newburgh and transformed this infamous, run-down welfare hotel into an attractive, well-designed, mixed-use, redevelopment project which includes; the Cornerstone Residence, the Ann Street Gallery, the Lobby at the Ritz, the Historic Ritz Theater, and resident art studio space. The organization’s goal is to provide housing and support services that will overcome socioeconomic stereotypes in the City of Newburgh by improving the quality of life for all citizens and assisting those in need with the transition to self sufficiency. Arts and cultural events reinforce and enhance the community’s sense of identity and pride of place, increase job opportunities, develop and beautify our neighborhoods, contribute towards quality of life and increase real estate value.
