JagStart Invitation
2017 JagStart Winners

We invite you to support Innovation to Enterprise initiatives for students at IUPUI, with opportunities to become involved at a variety of levels (speaking, mentoring, sponsorship, in-kind support, etc.). This will expand programs for student entrepreneurship education and experiential learning opportunities that are not typically part of the curriculum. Volunteers are needed to engage with students involved in our Innovation to Enterprise programs for innovation and entrepreneurship, including our annual "elevator pitch" competition, and student teams working to develop new products or new ventures through our Innovation to Enterprise Commercialization (ITEC) program.

JagStart Student Idea Pitch Competition

JagStart is a competition to reward IUPUI students for their innovative ideas to solve social and economic challenges facing the nation and the world. The emphasis of the competition is on providing answers to real-world problems, through new approaches, products, services, or ventures.

Students (undergraduate and graduate) with an original idea showing commercial promise or with potential for significant social impact are encouraged to participate. Ideas presented can be in any stage of development, but must be "pre-revenue" ideas. Entries are reviewed and finalists selected who then move on to the pitch competition. One member of each team will have three minutes to present to judges their concept or solution. The pitch is judged by local experts and professionals, who will look for the student’s ability to convey clearly an idea and the value proposition represented in a professional manner.

Innovation-to-Enterprise Initiative Research Commercialization Services

Our goal is to create and encourage the invention culture on campus, and serve as a ready source of support and information for faculty, staff, and students engaged in research with potential for commercial development. It is important to know how to prepare and move concepts and technologies along the "invention pipeline."

Description

Nationwide, universities are recognized as "engines of economic development," especially serving as a source of cutting edge scientific breakthroughs and technology development, and as the foundation for new business enterprises and social advancement. At IUPUI, the Innovation-to-Enterprise initiative has been conceived as a student-centered, multidisciplinary, active-learning initiative to provide opportunities for students to learn about innovation and research commercialization, while concurrently developing entrepreneurial and business skills. Be sure to review our opportunities for volunteers to work with our student entrepreneurship programs.
