- To promote and enhance literacy efforts and to encourage volunteers to participate in all phases of this endeavor
- To promote the knowledge and appreciation of literacy for all individuals through educational training and mass media exposure
- To acquire and administer funds as necessary, which after payment of expenses, shall be devoted exclusively to the furtherance of the purposes set forth above.
Description
We are a 501(c)3 organization of volunteers who provide free tutoring in reading, math, basic computer skills, and English as a Second Language to both children and adults in Baxter County, Arkansas since 1986. Last year the volunteers tutored over 150 people and donated more than 6,000 volunteer hours to this community. Most of our volunteers dedicate 1-2 hours per week to their student, at a time convenient to both the tutor and student. All of the necessary training for a tutor to accomplish his or her goal is provided free of charge by the Twin Lakes Literacy Council, and opportunities for further training are available throughout the year.
