  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Agricultural work
You might join a local co-operative for the harvesting season or be involved in the life of a farm. This doesn’t usually involve direct contact with animals, although tasks might include helping with general maintenance with farmers keeping animals. Often projects involving agriculture have a wider social aspect, such as working with people with disabilities, raising awareness of sustainable farming, education and so on.

Arts
You could be working on a collective art project or organising workshops, from music to painting, drama, photography, filming and so on. The level of skills required varies greatly, from very basic to highly skilled. Sometimes volunteers are asked to teach children basic art skills. Other times they contribute to the organisation of an art related event with the aim of involving people in the life of the community or raising awareness on specific issues.

Culture
Some projects are specifically focused on intercultural exchange between volunteers and local communities. Most activities consist of group discussions, organising workshops, events and leisure activities on a topic of intercultural importance.

Education and teaching
For example, teaching art skills, raising awareness on specific issues, teaching (mostly languages) or discussing a specific topic or subject.

Environment
A huge selection of projects, covering general conservation management in national parks and reserves, creating new walking paths, cleaning vegetation from riverbanks and beaches, creating habitats for wildlife, as well as raising awareness on environmental issues, recycling and sustainable development, amongst local communities and schools.

Family projects
Every year we have a small selection of projects open to volunteers and their children (usually aged 5-13). The project is intended to let adults and children work, while also spending quality time together. Work for children is designed not to be physically hard.

Local festivals
Over the summer many local communities, especially in Villages and Big towns, tend to organise small festivals to celebrate events, anniversaries and local traditions. Volunteers often play key roles, setting up, welcoming visitors, and dismantling afterwards. It can be hard work with long hours, but also exciting and rewarding, with the chance to get involved in the activities, workshops and events.

Manual work, renovation, restoration and construction
Many projects in our programme involve renovating or constructing buildings and infrastructure important for the life of a community. Tasks might involve renovating an old school, helping convert old buildings into social centres, or restoring old castles or historical buildings. Fundraising also for the construction of new classrooms

Social work
Volunteers might help look after people with learning or physical disabilities, or people in later life. Or you could be organising leisure activities for children and teenagers on a summer camp; some projects are also organised in orphanages, drop in centres or schools. This area can be highly rewarding if you have a keen interest in working with people.

Mission Statement

The Mission of Child Aid Development Foundation International is to reduce poverty inCameroon through the creation of supportive environments for the development ofdisadvantaged children, youth and their families to become self-sufficient through education, health, food security and environment programs.

Description

Child Aid Development Foundation International (CADFIN) is a non-governmental Community Based Child Centered Organization (CBO) founded in the year 2007 for the benefit of the economically and socially disadvantage rural children, youth and women. It was officially registered on 30 th July 2009 in Yaound, Cameroon. Over the past years, we have worked to identify and meet the needs and aspirations of the rural poor through participatory approaches in awareness raising, community health care, environment protection, HIV/AIDS awareness and income generation activities in 5 villages of Santa Sub-Division, North West Region of Cameroon.

Main thrust area of the organisation is social, education and economical development of neglected children, youth and women of most disadvantage communities and minorities through organising them into Common Initiative Groups; providing various training, exposure and workshops on leadership, strengthening and improving the children and women involvement in decision making process at all levels, gender, governance and income generation activities.

Development Model: -

We work to create a supportive environment for the development of disadvantage children. We help children break free from poverty by first empowering their mothers, improve their schools, outfit their health clinics and build their water facilities. In Cameroon, CADFIN works with communities to establish a comprehensive, child-focused development approach that gives community members the education, skills and opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty. We know that there is no single solution to ending poverty--but there are many solutions that, together, get the job done. Our programmes are designed to meet the basic needs of the community and eliminate the obstacles preventing children from accessing education and health. CADFIN adopt a unique sustainable development model with focus on five core pillar programs. Through implementation of the five pillars, we aim to improve access and change not only circumstance and opportunity, but behaviour. Ultimately this leads to a change in community status, resulting in long-term, effective and meaningful development.

  1. Education.
  2. Health.
  3. Agriculture and Food security/Nutrition.
  4. Clean Water and Sanitation.
  5. Alternative income and livelihood.

Sustainability and community ownership is key to us. From the very beginning of our work in a community, we work closely with the government and community structures to ensure that local community members are empowered and have real ownership over each project, be that a school project, a community garden or children environmental club.
