Calvert Hospice relies on its dedicated, trained volunteers to assist with patient care, bereavement support, administrative tasks, special projects and fundraising. Volunteers also operate our Shoppe for Hospice, a boutique with high quality, new and gently used women’s clothing.

Patient care volunteers visit patients in their home or nursing home to provide companionship, a few hours of respite for family members, run errands and offer transportation to appointments. We are also looking for "crafty" volunteers who are interested in helping patients and families document memories.

Bereavement volunteers work with surviving family members of hospice patients and others in the community grieving the death of someone close. In addition, we need volunteers to help facilitate Journeys, a youth support group and to be "buddies" at Camp Phoenix, a 3-day summer camp for children who have had losses.

Administrative volunteers assist with a variety of functions in our main office, including answering phones, filing, helping with mailings, and manning the front desk.

Special projects and fundraising volunteers assist with outreach and development events on an as needed, per event basis. This includes attending planning meetings, necessary coordination, and attending the event.
