Ratna Ling Volunteer Program

Gardener

Our deep appreciation of the natural environment requires a commitment to sustainability. Our gardener has the chance to nurture and create this sustainable environment, giving and receiving the bounty of the earth. This is a very significant job as we intend to be feeding our community and guests from our organic homegrown produce within two years.

We have a fenced raised bed garden of flowers, vegetables, and herbs that need management, planning, planting, and expansion. We also have a newly turned 1/2-acre fenced row garden.

The right person for this job is healthy, strong, loves to work independently, well organized, and has planned and managed large gardens in the past. One will also learn and practice essential communication and cooperation with our kitchen staff, as well as some maintenance and irrigation of some of the site landscaping.

Chef, Vegetarian Cuisine

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and qualified cook to assist in running our large and busy kitchen. Ratna Ling Retreat Center is a non-profit retreat center and intentional community located in the beautiful coastal redwoods of Sonoma County in northern California. Grounded in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and supported by a spiritual community of like-minded people dedicated to service to humanity, this year-round residential work-study opportunity allows your skills and enthusiasm to flourish.

The successful applicant will have some previous experience in these areas:

Managing a busy kitchen

Planning and setting menus

Ordering and monitoring supplies

Rostering staff

Attention to detail is a must, as is demonstrated culinary expertise. We want someone with creativity and passion to help us produce international vegetarian cuisine to enhance the overall dining experience for our volunteers and retreatants.

Groundskeeper/Maintenance

Our groundskeeper and maintenance person will have a conceptual understanding of Ratna Ling, with an awareness of the small details that create the big picture. We aspire to provide a peaceful and serene atmosphere for our community and guests to experience the healing qualities of nature.

This job will require and strengthen knowledge of tools and problem-solving, stamina, time management, and a sensitivity to creating beauty.

Tasks will include landscaping and general maintenance of grounds and facilities. Other tasks may include helping in our organic garden and assisting in retreat operations when necessary.

Mission Statement

Ratna Ling Retreat Center’s mission is to offer education, healing, and spirituality to integrate into everyday life. Guided by the Tibetan Buddhist traditions, we aim to share what is best, most beautiful, and most meaningful in this precious human existence. Our name, "Ratna Ling" means "Land of Treasures". It is Rinpoche’s vision that the precious jewels of the teachings he brought to our country from a land far away, will touch hearts, open minds, and reveal the deep peace within that can be felt while staying in a place of gentle, natural beauty, supported by a spiritual community. Our purpose is to serve humanity by leading others toward wholeness and wellness on the path of Enlightenment. Our resident volunteers practice so that they may become guardians, protectors, and examples of this sacred wholeness and wellness.
