Horses helping people discover their abilites

We Can Ride is always looking for great volunteers to help us. Volunteers help in our therapeutic riding lessons and hippotherapy as sidewalkers, leaders, and barn aides. Volunteers are also used to feed the horses, maintain the barn, help at special events, fundraisers, committees and office tasks.

Our lessons are 8 weeks long and go from spring to fall every year. We have lessons every day of the week except Friday with evening, daytime, and weekend times available.

You do not need to have any experience working with people with disabilities and special needs or horses. We provide training to all volunteers so that you get the training you need to do your role confidently.

Looking to learn more about horses? We offer workshops and trainings throughout the year, free of cost, to all of our volunteers to give back to you. It is a great way to learn more in an open and nonjudgemental environment.

About We Can Ride, Inc.

Mission Statement

We Can Ride, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer-based organization whose mission to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities or special needs through equine assisted activities.

Description

At We Can Ride, equine-assisted Therapeutic Riding is for individuals from six years old to 70 years young. These classes are taught by PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors with the help of our Therapists. Along with the many therapeutic benefits of being on a moving horse, our goals are to teach horsemanship skills. Clients may also learn to groom, lead, saddle and mount their horses. Class sizes are from three to six and include the use of one to three volunteers per client.

We Can Ride’s Hippotherapy program involves a credentialed physical or occupational therapist working one-on-one with the client to reach traditional therapy goals without teaching specific riding skills. The therapist works with a certified instructor to create the type of movements from the horse to meet the specific treatment goals. Trained volunteers also help with balance and postural corrections.
