ORGANIZATION: Volunteers of America Texas

Volunteers of America Texas

The Volunteers of America Texas Resolana Program prepares women for change and introduces the concept of healthy relationships while they are in jail, but many struggle to continue this healthy lifestyle after release. Mentoring is an opportunity to empower a woman who has been incarcerated by providing this type of relationship. Concurrent with mentoring, mentees will have access to community resources and support from Resolana staff. Our goal is to reduce recidivism by addressing these needs.

Having a mentor to cheer them on during this tumultuous time can be a huge factor in success!

The most important skill for a mentor to possess is a desire to create a positive, supportive relationship with a woman who is struggling. We will help you with the rest!

Mentors will receive training and ongoing support from the mentor coordinator. And mentees must apply to be part of the program, and are highly motivated to change.

Mentors are carefully paired with mentees on the basis of personality compatibility. Mentors and mentees meet at least 2 times per month for 1 year. Meetings begin at the Judge John C. Creuzot Judicial Residential Treatment Center in Lancaster, TX. These meetings continue after the mentee is released into the community, for a total of a 1 year commitment. Post release from the treatment center, mentors and mentees choose a convenient location in the DFW area to meet.
