As a Kindergarten Assistant you work with pre-school aged children (typically ages 4-5) in the kindergarten classrooms. Together with the teacher, you encourage learning through games and crafts. This work is especially rewarding since the kids are extremely friendly and open-minded. Kindergarten assistants work in the mornings, Monday to Friday from 7.30 am till noon. Friday's classes often end early.
This position is available from February to November. The minimum time commitment for this position is 6 weeks, and long term volunteers are always welcome. You should have an intermediate or better level of Spanish to be able to play and chat with the kids.
We provide inexpensive volunteer housing or can arrange for homestays if you prefer.
There are no fees charged to volunteer with La Esperanza Granada. You will have to pay your own cost of living and your own transport. We ask each volunteer to make a $20 contribution to help with administration costs. You are not required to do fund raising, though of course it is welcomed.

Mission Statement
Our mission: By providing opportunities and resources for the long term educational advancement and community development of the Granadino barrios, we hope to brighten the future of the children and empower each community so that they can break the cycle of poverty. At La Esperanza Granada, we believe in giving a hand up, not a handout.
Description
Located in Granada, Nicaragua, La Esperanza Granada is a non-profit organization with a primary focus on creating opportunities for children through education. 'Born’ in 2002, we started in one small village and now provide learning opportunities to more than 2,000 underprivileged children living in the barrios of Granada.
We are a nonprofit, nonpolitical, nondenominational organization, funded by donations of individuals, groups, service groups, schools etc. Donations are used for building new classrooms and schools, contributing to teacher’s salaries, and various things to help improve education and health for the children, such as making copies of exams and worksheets, buying textbooks, dental visits, sports supplies, school repairs and a never ending list of needs in this impoverished country.
The coronavirus crisis has damaged tourism in Nicaragua, reducing our funds and international volunteer numbers. Despite this, La Esperanza has persisted. The staff and the children here are extremely excited to welcome back our international volunteers!
Granada is a beautiful colonial city, on the shore of Lake Cocibolca and surrounded by volcanoes. The beach is never far away. There’s safe and accessible transport service within Granada and connecting it to surrounding areas. While Nicaragua has no official Covid restrictions, citizens generally follow Covid safety protocols
