Love Kittens and kitties?
Can't bring any (more) home?!
Donate two hours a week and make a difference in the life of a shelter cat. Golden Paw Society rescues kitties from local town shelters. Many of the cats rescued have spent years living poor crowded noisy cages. Golden Paw Society offered them a new lease on life. We provide them with quality medical care and rehabilitate those who need extra support- through the support of our volunteers!!
Our volunteers help make each of our rescued kitties feel loved and cared for.
Help us, help them. In return you'll get tons of kitty love!
*We are currently in need of morning help Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays! If you don't mind cleaning, our kitties would appreciate your company!
We are looking for help at our main adoption center in Huntington station. Volunteers help with litter box scooping, feeding, fresh water. Giving the kitties love, brushing them, petting them, playing with them, talking to them, often just giving them a lap to lay in. Volunteers are available to speak to potential adopters about the kitties that are available for adoption.
Volunteers should be 18 years or older

Golden Paw Society is an exclusively charitable all volunteer run organization (501c3 tax-exempt) dedicated to the rescue of cats who have been in municipal shelters for an extended period of time and/or who exhibit a dire need of removal from the shelter setting. We believe that no matter how old, sick or 'difficult' a cat may be, each cat deserves to be loved, cared for and given a second chance, and we endeavor to provide that second chance to those cats who need us most.
Golden Paw Society will intervene, if and whenever possible, to rescue homeless cats and other animals in dire need from other-than-shelter settings.
Golden Paw Society will see to it that each rescued cat is provided with medical care and emotional/physical rehabilitation. Each cat will be vaccinated, FIV/FeLV tested, spayed/neutered, dewormed, and receive veterinary care as needed. All of our rescued cats will be provided with whatever is needed in order to prepare them for adoption into their forever homes.
Golden Paw Society is committed to finding quality forever homes for its rescued cats through diligent screening of potential adopters.
Golden Paw Society will use every opportunity to educate the public in responsible pet ownership and to promote spay/neuter programs in the community. Furthermore, in order to dispel the myths associated with FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), Golden Paw Society is committed to working to educate the public about FIV and to increase awareness of the abilty of FIV+ and FIV- cats to safely coexist.
Golden Paw Society is dedicated, through it's various services and programs, to ending the cycle of needless misery and death of cats and other companion animals caused by overpopulation, neglect, abuse and abandonment. No part of this mission is possible without the generous support of others.
Golden Paw Society (GPS) is a vibrant 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization that formed in August 2012 with a specific goal in mind - to change the plight of Long Island shelter cats. Comprised 100% of volunteers and relying solely on private donations, GPS routinely visits overcrowded municipal animal shelters on Long Island and rescues the cats & kittens who are in dire need of removal from those super-stressful environments. The cats we rescue would otherwise likely be euthanized or left to languish in their cages. Old age, health problems, or behavioral issues are embraced by GPS; our goal is to rehabilitate and find appropriate homes for each and every animal we take under our wing. Our cats have the best medical care available through partnerships with various local animal hospitals in Nassau & Suffolk County.GPS operates out of 4 different adoption locations, with our home-base being our unique "home away from home" main Adoption Center located at 260 Broadway in Huntington Station. Here we cater to the physical and emotional needs of cats who have been caged in shelters for months, or sometimes years. Early this year we purchased the property, allowing us to provide sanctuary for rescued shelter cats far into the future. Beyond this facility, we run the cat adoption programs in Petsmart Commack and Petco Huntington and have a long-standing relationship with Community Pet Shop on New York Avenue, in Huntington Village. GPS is constantly growing and expanding, especially within the Huntington community. With an active volunteer program of 90+ local people and connecting with local businesses, GPS is becoming an integral part of the community and appreciates every bit of support to continue saving cats’ lives. Additionally, with over 550,000 fans on Facebook, we have a solid online fan base that spans across the United States and beyond. Here we spotlight our daily rescue activities and achievements as well as advertise and show appreciation for our sponsors and other supporters.
In just two and a half years, GPS has rescued & adopted out over 450 shelter cats.
We'll work with your schedule.
