Interested in Japanese culture? Like working with kids? Volunteer to be a summer camp counselor at the Japanese Friendship Garden!
The JFG hosts a summer camp every year for students from grades 1 - 8 that includes fun cultural activities including learning game of go, dressing in yukata, folding origami and playing taiko. Camp counselors are needed to assist instructors and supervise and teach children!
Summer camp runs for three weeks in July:
- July 8 - July 12 (Grades 1 - 2) 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
- July 15 - July 19 (Grades 3 - 5) 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm
- July 22 - July 26 (Grades 6 - 8) 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
A minimum commitment of one week is required. Volunteers will be requested to come in for interview and training in the weeks prior to the start of summer camp season.
Interview dates are June 4th - 8th during the afternoon. Also, we have a mandatory Summer Camp Orientation on 22nd from 2 pm - 3 pm.Application is available from our website: http://www.niwa.org/volunteer-application

The mission statement of the Japanese Friendship Garden Society and Museum of San Diego is to develop a traditional Japanese garden as a center to educate, engage and inspire people of diverse backgrounds about Japanese culture and community legacy.
Description
JFGM provides various opportunities for volunteers to learn and grow with the garden. From summer/winter camps, gardening/composting, activities for our vistors, taking care of bonsai trees, education on maintaining Koi fish and their ponds and many more Japanese related events that we hold throughout the year.
