Celebrate Earth Day by participating in Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge’s #RemoteEarthDayChallenge

Many consider the first Earth Day in 1970 to be the birth of the modern environmental movement. Earth Day has become an annual international event promoting community involvement, a healthier environment, and more sustainable living. Celebrate this 50th Earth Day by participating in the RemoteEarth Day Challenge! Although we won’t be able to gather in person for an on-site Earth Day Work Day, in the next two weeks we will share ideas for you to celebrate Earth Day close-to-home and with proper social distancing! Visit our Facebook page to learn more or to share your own Earth Day at home projects( https://www.facebook.com/DeerFlatNWR/).

Mission Statement

The mission of the National Wildlife Refuge System is to work with others, to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

Description

Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, founded by President Theodore Roosevelt on February 25, 1909, is one of the oldest refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System (NWRS).

Managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the System preserves a network of lands and waters set aside for the conservation and management of the nation's fish, wildlife, and plant resources for the benefit of present and future generations.

Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge needs your talents, enthusiasm, and time! If you appreciate and are concerned about the refuge and its wildlife, then consider becoming a refuge volunteer.
