To assist people with disbilities to achieve the highest potential and benefit of independent living by providing them, those who support them, and the community with information, education and resources.

Description

The disAbility Resource Center believes in community inclusion and a purposeful life for people of all disabilities. The dRC is a Center for Independent Living, one of 16 in Virginia, serving Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George and Caroline counties and the city of Fredericksburg.

The dRC’s services include advocacy, information and resources, independent living skills training, peer counseling, deaf and hard of hearing services, exercise and nutrition classes, durable medical equipment re-use, veteran’s outreach, Developmental Disabilities Waiver case management, facilitation of consumer-driven personal assistant services, Money Follows the Person transition coordination, adult and youth advocacy groups, work incentives benefits counseling, guidance on Social Security benefits questions, youth services and transition support, guidance on home modifications and funding for modifications, information on accessible housing, Medicaid Waiver information, and workshops and trainings for people with disabilities, their families and caretakers, and the community.

The dRC is the only cross disability, cross life-span agency to serve the Rappahannock Region. Our consumers are always provided free, confidential services that are determined through the the Independent Living Plan they develop with our staff. The majority of our staff are people with disabilties or family members of people with disabilities, and all staff take into consideration our consumers’ desires, gifts, talents and abilities.
