Waterloo Recreation Area, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
We’ll continue our efforts to rid lovely natural areas of invasive garlic mustard. It’s easy to pull and fun for the whole family. Join volunteer steward Kathy C.for a few hours of pulling and bagging garlic mustard. You’ll be preserving a gem of a woodland in the process. While looking for garlic mustard, you may find some native wildflowers in bloom or even some wild morels! Meet at the park headquarters at 16345 McClure Road in Chelsea. GPS coordinates: 42.33298, -84.10672 For day-of questions please call Kathy at 734-678-7276.

Mission Statement
To preserve, protect and restore the natural and cultural resources present within Michigan State Parks for this and future generations.
Description
Volunteers will help steward natural areas (woodlands, wetlands, prairies, etc.) within Michigan state parks and recreation areas. These efforts will help protect entire ecosystems as well as individual species - especially those in greatest need of conservation ("Species of Special Concern" and those whose populations are "Threatened" or "Endangered").
Currently, Core Volunteer Stewards are volunteering at monthly volunteer workdays on weekends at 7 southeast Michigan parks and recreation areas. Volunteers do a variety of activities throughout the year including: removing invasive non-native plants, collecting seed from native plants, and planting native seedlings. Volunteers can also participate in a number of Individual Projects like Insect Monitoring, Photographic Monitoring and Invasive Plant Mapping - to name a few.
No previous experience is need to participate, though some training might be necessary for certain projects.
