Our "Visit a Veteran" program provides volunteers with the unique ability to support our veteran patients who are on hospice. Brookdale Hospice brings the gift of friendship to our patients through regular visits by volunteers. Our volunteers offer services such as companionship by just being present for the patient, reading, talking or assisting with non-medical tasks. Our volunteers also provide emotional support through listening, sharing experiences and stories, holding a hand, giving a hug, offering words of comfort, or respite by staying with the patient while a caregiver enjoys a moment alone. We recognize that veterans share a special bond among each other. The goal of our "Visit a Veteran" program is to match veteran patients with hospice-trained volunteers who are also veterans. All hospice volunteers are trained with helpful skills in caring for and communicating with hospice patients and their families. Volunteer hours are flexible, according to your availability.

We are currently not seeing patients in the Brookdale Senior Living communities, but with agreement and using CDC guidelines, we can visit them if they are living at home.

Until it is safe to do so, you could assist in other ways. Contact tchoate@brookdale.com to learn how you can make a difference during this time.

Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement is simple but powerful: Enriching the lives of those we serve with compassion, respect, excellence and integrity.

Description

Life is much more than physical health; it is also the dignity of the human spirit. When physical health begins to fail, the nurturing of the spirit becomes increasingly important. Hospice care is a service that aids the transition between living and dying by providing respect, care, comfort, and support to patients and families.

Brookdale Hospice volunteers provide important support to the care of our patients and families.

Brookdale Hospice serves primarily residents at Brookdale Senior Living communities and the surrounding neighborhoods. We are CHAP accredited and a member of the NHPCO.
