Spring Garden Market - Master Gardener Plant Sale and Educational Fair

Be a part of the fun by encouraging sustainability and healthy lifestyles through gardening. At our annual market we sell over 20,000 tomato, pepper, herb, flower and succulent plants, give educational talks and have activities for children.

Ideal for high school and college groups or individuals. Hours will count as volunteer service hours for students and you will recieve documentation when you complete your shift.

The things you'll be doing:

  • Maintain a "Plant Check" area, much like a coat check for the plants our customers have purchased

  • Help patrons load their cars with plants / other items purchased

  • Assist in the sales line or other areas as needed as the event progresses

Preregistration is required. A volunteer waiver http://mgsantaclara.ucanr.edu/files/254731.pdf MUST be signed and brought with you. Younger than 18 must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Arriving - We recommend getting dropped off or parking on Chynoweth Ave near Vauxhall Circle. A walk in entrance is close to the Master Gardener Spring Garden Market. Report to Plant Check-In in the Shade House.

Bring a water bottle and dress to be outdoors! Closed sturdy closed toed shoes, hat and sunscreen are recommended.

Mission Statement

To extend research based knowledge and information on home horticulture, pest management, and sustainable landscape practices to the residents of Santa Clara County.

Description

Our organization participates in a number of events and projects to educate and inform the public about gardening. Each year we trial and test cool season vegetables and warm season vegetables to determine the which ones we will grow for the Spring Garden and Fall Garden Markets. In addition to selling all vegetables from seed, the Garden Markets feature horticultural talks based on our mission. These talks are free and open to the public. You can get your gardening questions answered by stopping by an event or by calling our county help desk. For more information see our website. We have "Advice to Grow By...Ask Us!"
