ARHA operates Resource Learning Centers that serve low to moderate income families in Alexandria by providing a host of programs and initiatives tailored to the needs of residents in order to help them on a path of self-sufficiency.
An after-school homework assistance and tutoring program is provided to help K-5th grade students improve in the areas of Reading and Language Arts. Volunteers will work with kids in a small group setting of no more than 4 students, for an hour. Instructional session is usually indoors but volunteers are encouraged to try new approaches, even taking the youth outdoors. Knowledge of computers is helpful as the program relies heavily on their use. Volunteers may also be given opportunities to chaperone kids on field trips where applicable. Critical need time is between 3:30 pm and 5:30 p.m.
