ORGANIZATION: Critter Adoption & Rescue Effort Inc

Purpose: To manage Estate Planning and the Legacy Circle program as an integral part of overall shelter fundraising efforts. The Legacy Circle is an honorary program consisting of individuals who have indicated a desire to bequeath monies to C.A.R.E. as a part of their overall estate plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain promotional materials to publicize the program and provide recognition to those individuals who have left monies to C.A.R.E. in their estate plans

  • Proactively engage with individuals, legal representatives, organizations and other entities to actively promote the program and to follow-up with current and potential donors to encourage their continued or future participation

  • Participate with other volunteers in an effort to publicize the program during outreach or other special events

  • Maintain an "open" file for those individuals who have indicated a desire to become a Legacy Circle member and maintain a "closed" file for those deceased members from whom funds from their estates were subsequently received by C.A.R.E.

  • Maintain a follow-up file for current contact information on potential members and periodically check with these potential members until they decide on participation

  • Honor those deceased Legacy Circle members by placing an engraved plate on the Legacy Circle plaque located in the reception area at C.A.R.E.

Qualifications:

  • Good communication and listening skills

  • Ability and desire to actively promote the program and work with (usually) mature adults and/or their legal representatives, following up with possible/pending members to maintain their interest in becoming a member, and communicating with family/friends of deceased members to insure they are aware of the Legacy Circle plaque honoring their family member or friend

  • Ability to independently maintain administrative files in a current and organized fashion

    Procedures:

  • Periodically review "Just-In-Case" pamphlet, updating/revising/printing as appropriate and maintain awareness of changes in IRS policies concerning tax consequences of estate gifts

  • Attend outreach or special events (as necessary) and periodically write articles for Critter Chronicles to publicize Legacy Circle

  • Distribute pamphlet to possible members or their representatives and then periodically follow-up to encourage their participation and maintain their interest

  • Upon interest by potential member, create "open file" with information on the potential donor and add their name to Legacy Circle along with those others who have expressed a desire to name C.A.R.E. as a recipient of monies in their estate planning documents

  • Upon notification of the distribution to C.A.R.E. of a portion of a member’s estate, have a plate engraved and mounted on the Legacy Circle plaque in the C.A.R.E. reception area. Then annotate the individual’s file as "closed" and file appropriately in the administrative files

Description

Most of the animals that come to CARE need just a few weeks of special care before they are ready for adoption to a good home. Others, who are older or sick or have suffered extreme trauma, become CARE ambassadors and find a special home at CARE for the rest of their lives.
