Caring Hospice

Hospice volunteers:

  • Visit patients in their homes and in facilities offering companionship and a chance to reminisce
  • Read books, newspapers and other favorites to people when they aren’t able themselves
  • Assist with small errands for the patient and family.
  • Share their talents and gifts... Play Music, sing, draw at bedside of patient, create photo albums, knitt blankets and more.
  • Provide patient the opportunity to tell his/her life story through the use of video, (if patient or caregiver has one available), audio and/or the written word.
  • Office Volunteers assist office staff with basic tasks such as copying and filing, helping with web research, spreadsheets and more.
  • Contribute to volunteer newsletter keeping volunteers and staff in tune with the Hospice Volunteer Program’s activities.

Our mission is to coordinate patient and family services while respecting their choices, values and beliefs. Hospice affirms life. Hospice exists to provide support and comfort to dying patients and their families. Hospice supports patients so that they might live as comfortably and as fully as possible. Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death. We exists in the hope and belief that with care, patients and their families are free to attain a satisfactory degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death.

Description

Hospice is a way of providing care for a person who is terminally ill, it is a program that focuses on the quality of life.Hospice believes in the right of people to know accurately and honestly what is happening to them so they can choose how they want to spend the remaining amount of time in the most purposeful and meaningful way.Hospice is for people who have terminal illness and is a way to deal realistically with a fatal disease. It offers the hope of dignity and comfort. and is family oriented program that helps families and/or friends to care for their loved one in the home.
