Ryan & Julian

Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for adult volunteers to spend an hour a week with a child in need. The volunteer will meet the child at his or her school and typically spend the lunch hour together. In some cases, they meet during the after-school program.

The Bigs and Littles participate in many activities, including playing games together in the school library, cafeteria or gymnasium. Sometimes, on the playground where they participate in athletic activities. They might also participate in special projects together, including baking, sewing, arts and crafts, building models, etc.

When a mentor takes time to visit a child at school, it leads to enhanced social skills and academic success.

When an adult spends time with a child simply because he cares, the result is improved self-concept, which in turn nurtures responsibility, success, and happiness.
