- Older adults who are intimidated by technology are shut out of so many opportunities -- from family connections to online discounts and and support groups.
- Generations on Line, a national non-profit, based in Philadelphia, has provided tablets, materials, and self-teaching on-screen instructions to guide a novice step-by-step on to the Internet in four one-hour sessions.
- Through grant support, these free sessions are held in public places where seniors live or congregate.
- If you use a smart phone or iPad, Android or Kindle Fire, won't you sign up for a few months as a GoL coach two hours a week?
- All support materials for coaches are provided. the cafes are free of charge.
- We have helped more than 100,000 people over age 65, mostly low income, discover email and the internet for the first time in their lives. See one in action on this short video:

About Generations on Line
Location:
1017 CLINTON ST, PHILADELPHIA, PA 19107, US
Mission Statement
Generations on Line is dedicated to enhancing communication among generations by promoting Internet access and literacy to elders. Aimed at the large population of older Americans who cannot afford or choose not to enroll in computer or Internet training, Generations on Line will:
- Foster and promote Internet literacy, access and skills to the elderly:
- Overcome older persons’ fear and reluctance of the new electronic media; and
- Stimulate and encourage communication and exchange of ideas among generations.
Description
Generations on Line (GoL) has simplified the Internet for seniors. GoL has created, tested and developed a software program that provides on-screen, step-by step instruction to help people over 65 use the Internet. GoL makes this program and its adjunct materials free to seniors through places where they live and congregate, such as nursing homes, HUD subsidized housing, retirement communities, senior centers and public libraries. The program works best with the support of peer coaches to help trouble shoot and guide new users. In 2014, Generations on Line will launch a new tutorial for understanding the iPad; we will seek coaches in the Babby Boomer age range to assist at libraries and senior centers throughout the tri-state area.
