Compassus Hospice and Paliative Care Companion Volunteers help to personalize, support and enhance the quality of our patients' lives by bringing the gift of friendship to our patients through regular visits. These volunteers offer...
- Companionship by just being there for the patient and offering to read, play music or a game, sharing stories & memories, taking a walk, or providing assistance with non-medical tasks. There are also times to simply sit quietly with a patient (or family member) to let them know that they are not alone.
- Emotional Support to patients and families by listening & sharing experiences, allowing the expression of feelings, holding a hand, giving a needed hug, and offering words of comfort.
Volunteer hours are flexible and scheduled according to your availability and duties are assigned based on your abilities and comfort level.
Our Companion Volunteers receive training regarding the philosophy of hospice, the role of the volunteer and other staff members, as well as, helpful skills in caring for and communicating with hospice patients and their families.

Mission Statement
Care, Comfort & Compassion for the Whole Family We believe everyone deserves to live in comfort and dignity throughout their lives. Hospice care helps ensure that those with a life-limiting illness live each day to its fullest; we do that by tending to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. All of us at Hospice Advantage believe strongly in our mission of helping patients and their families during this time.
Description
We're committed to providing the highest quality care that our patients and their families deserve.
In becoming a hospice volunteer, you will embark on an exciting adventure which will not only improve the lives of others but uplift your spirit as well.
"Volunteers embody all that is best about hospice. When hope seems lost, volunteers are found at the bedside asking for nothing but the opportunity to give. When all the news seems to be bad, volunteers deliver a warm message of universal friendship and community. When all the power and promise of our high-tech society and healthcare system yield as they must to human mortality, volunteers remind us of the mystical and eternal value of human connectedness. Without volunteers, hospice as we know it ... and as we want it to be ... ceases to exist." - Rod Hildebrant, Owner & President of Hospice Advantage
