PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Bring fire safety information and resources to your community

OPEN TIME DAYS

Three types of events:

•Training (recommended; can also occur immediately before an event):｠ Typically held on weekday evenings; typically 3 hours long.｠ Volunteers are recommended to take one class.｠ Learn basic principles of home fire preparedness such as:｠｠ Background of Home Fire Preparedness Campaign;｠｠ Need for rapid egress (<2min); planning=\"\" and=\"\" practicing=\"\" escape=\"\" routes=\"\" where=\"\" to=\"\" place=\"\" smoke=\"\" alarms=\"\" how=\"\" check=\"\" test=\"\" install=\"\" p=\"\">

•Pre-Event Canvasing:｠ Approximately one week before visiting a neighborhood to install smoke alarms and educate residents about escape principles and plans, we visit the neighborhoods to let residents know we are coming (and not asking for money, but giving free stuff away!).｠ Typically 3 hours at a time, 1 weekend a month

•Installation and Education:｠ Check existing smoke alarms for placement, age, battery, and operability;｠ Educate residents on escaping the fire;｠｠ Install new smoke alarms;｠｠ Create and submit required records

•Orientation to Red Cross completed during Volunteer Intake process
