ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross of Idaho and Montana

PLACEMENT PURPOSE
You will be an essential part of the American Red Cross Idaho Montana Region response and recovery team. This position is responsible for safely deploying, coordinating, coaching and supervising Idaho and Montana disaster workers to active disaster scenes throughout the two states. The duty officer position was created to support disaster responders in the field and ensure accountability and standardization for the entire Idaho Montana Region disaster response and recovery program. This is NOT an  on-scene  type disaster response position and can be done from the comfort of volunteers’ homes. Duty officers are not allowed to be on call for a local disaster action team at the same time they are on for a duty officer shift as they are responsible for their duty officer role across two states. Duty officers are tasked with ensuring material, financial and volunteer resources are used wisely throughout the state, dispatching and safety of the disaster workforce for response, maintaining an incident log, tracking deployed resources and frequent communications with disaster responders in the field, as well as with emergency management partners, all duty officers and administrative staff. In addition, duty officers will approve soft assistance (hygiene kits, blankets, referrals to partner agencies) and financial assistance needed for clients based on assessed disaster caused needs to aid in disaster recovery, update the Client Assistance System (CAS

We are willing to work with your schedule as long as it fits the needs of the program and organization.

Minimum requirement to hold the duty officer position is nine shifts per month, shifts are in Mountain Time Zone and are 12a -6am,⦆6am-12pm,⦆12pm -⦆6pm, 6pm-12am.

  • Psychological First Aid (Classroom)

TRAINING PROVIDED

  • Series of webinars to introduce tools used by duty officers on a routine basis (neighborhood, etc.)
  • Disaster Cycle Services Operations (DCSOps)
  • Client Assistance System (CAS)
  • National Shelter System (NSS)
  • Ongoing support from an assigned coach for two to three months, once initial training completed
