For volunteers, Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters is the place to make an impact, forge new personal/professional connections and grow as a leader in the Greater Boston community.
We're well-known for our pioneering 1:1 mentoring programs for kids/teens, but did you know we also operate a friendship program for adults with disabilities called "Friend 2 Friend?"
In Friend 2 Friend, we introduce local adults with disabilities - Jewish and non-Jewish - to a volunteer/friend. Volunteers are Jewish and non-Jewish professionals, parents and grandparents who believe in innate human potential and one's capacity to achieve it with the right supports. Some volunteers are brand new to the Boston area and eager to meet new people. Others have been living here for a while (or forever) and are seeking a fun, new way to be involved in their community. Either way, Friend 2 Friend is a great option.
Volunteers get together with their match once or twice per month at their convenience. They participate in activities they mutually enjoy, including - if they choose - engaging in agency-sponsored activities.
Currently, over 50 adults are awaiting a Friend.
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES REQUIRED.
