Want to be a dog walker?
WCHS is also currently seeking dedicated dog walkers who love the outdoors to provide much-needed enrichment to our shelter dogs. During extremely poor weather, volunteers can spend time inside the dogs' enclosures playing with toys and providing gentle handling and quiet time. After you attend the "general" orientation and attend at least 3 regular volunteer shifts, let a staff member know you're interested in dog walking and socialization; this volunteer opportunity requires an additional orientation, which we hold on the 2nd & 4th Sundays of every month at 2:15 pm.
Before you attend the dog walker orientation, please review the Dog Walker Orientation Packet (http://www.whitmanpets.org/volunteer/). We'll need you to email us your answers to the survey questions before you come in for orientation.
If you have any questions please let us know.

Description
About Us
The Whitman County Humane Society is a nonprofit organization supported primarily through the donations of caring residents. WCHS operates a "no-kill" (except in cases of aggression or lifelong illness), limited-admission shelter located in Pullman that serves all of Whitman County. The Whitman County Humane Society contracts with Pullman, Albion, and Palouse to provide care for stray dogs found within their city limits. Dogs, cats, and other domesticated pet animals whose owners can no longer care for them are accepted on a space-available basis, provided that they are in good health and are of good temperament. Animals are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. There is a $35 fee for all animals surrendered by their owners.
The WCHS shelters any type of pet animal until it can be adopted. This includes dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, reptiles, birds, rodents, rabbits, guinea pigs and other pocket pets.
Kittens are generally available from May to November.
All pets at our shelter are evaluated for adoptability.
