About

The Green Streets Initiative is looking for web developers / programmers to 1) update and 2) maintain a Django application that lets participants in GSI's Walk/Ride Days "check in" their commutes online, allows coordinators to see how staff are doing, and enables the public to have a thorough overview of who's in the lead by different variables. This project gives GSI accurate and important data on changing habits toward active commuting (public transportation, biking, and walking) during our Corporate Challenge held April through October.

Once this update is made, we seek a developer/programmer who would be

  • Responsible for deployment and updating

  • Expected to periodically collaborate with the rest of the GSI team, for example:

    • To discuss the feasibility of new ideas

    • To make sure data analysts get the data they need

    • To contemplate messaging and design

Must-haves:

  • Familiarity with the basics of Git. Our code is hosted here: https://github.com/greenstreetsinitiative/checkin2015

  • Fluency with Python/Django or willingness to learn it well

  • Web development basics - HTML, CSS, Javascript

  • Desire to make an impact on commuters' transportation choices!

Good-to-have:

  • Ability to interact with a Postgres database

  • Data analysis skills

  • Desire to play with Google Maps API

**Please also complete Green Street Initiative’s volunteer questionnaire, https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BD8u2LeqElrqhQRBHgyTwcBmkiD2wKrJ5ksufUIZIgU/viewform, in addition to sending a message through VolunteerMatch. Thank you!**
