This is a Virtual Opportunity, with no fixed address.

The Green Streets Initiative is looking for a web developer to update and maintain a Django application that lets participants in GSI's Walk/Ride Days "check in" their commutes online. This gives GSI accurate and important data on the use of green transportation (public transportation, biking, and walking) in the Boston area, particularly during our Corporate Challenge held April through October.

The developer/programmer would be...

  • Responsible for deployment and uptime

  • Expected to occasionally collaborate with the rest of the GSI team, for example:

    • To discuss the feasibility of new ideas

    • To make sure data analysts get the data they need

    • To contemplate messaging and design

  • Familiarity with the basics of Git. Our code is hosted here: https://github.com/greenstreetsinitiative/checkin2015

  • Fluency with Python/Django or willingness to learn it well

  • Web development basics - HTML, CSS, Javascript

  • Desire to make an impact on commuter’s transportation choices!

  • Ability to interact with a Postgres database

  • Data analysis skills

  • Desire to play with Google Maps API

Number of Hours per Week: 3-6 hours
