Would you like to help local Veterans? There are a wide range of benefits people earn through military service, but it can often be difficult for veterans to complete application processes or even understand what they are entitled to.
We are seeking volunteers to help staff our Veterans Resource Center, located in the Main Library. You will work directly with patrons who have served in the US Military (or their families), helping them improve their lives by enrolling in benefits and services. You will also have the chance to promote the program at community outreach events. No prior knowledge of resources is required; the library will provide training. This is an excellent opportunity for veterans to be of service to their community, but anyone is welcome to volunteer.
Volunteers will ideally be scheduled for a weekly 2 hour shift and will be able to commit to a minimum of six months.

Mission Statement
Your Oakland Public Library empowers all people to explore, connect, and grow.
Description
The Oakland Public Library is a part of the City of Oakland and has been in existence since 1878. Our locations currently include 16 branches, a Main Library, 6 Teen Zones, the Second Start Adult Literacy Program, a Tool Lending Library and the African American Museum and Library. We also operate the Books for Wider Horizons program that recruits, trains, and places volunteer story readers in preschool or childcare centers throughout the City of Oakland and offer many other special services for residents of Oakland and California.
We are supported by a lively Friends of the Library group and by the Library Advisory Commission, as well as by local Friends' groups around the city.
