Your work will directly impact the lives of under-served young adults (ages 18 to 29), helping them create new economic opportunities. The impact of micro business ownership is huge - you will enable young people to create a new source of income, develop marketable skills and enhance their sense of empowerment and dignity.

We use our digital platform at to get to know our volunteer business advisors & mentors and make high quality matches with underserved young entrepreneurs.

On, we're looking for volunteer advisors with the ability to build trust and rapport with underrepresented young adult entrepreneurs, and experienced business professionals.

This role can involve as little as one hour of your time, or as much time as you would like to offer, all on your own terms. It can include:

  • Providing your specific business expertise to help an entrepreneur through a specific activity (e.g. branding, website development, legal or accounting guidance, funding applications), or

  • Coaching entrepreneurs as they create their initial business plan

Our business advisors may work with one entrepreneur for a single meeting, or up to five young entrepreneurs on specific projects that take a period of a month or more.

Advisory activities range from providing written feedback to one on one sessions, but always start with a one-on-one meeting either in-person or virtually (phone or video chat).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have expertise in a specific arena (e.g. legal, finance, branding, accounting, funding)

  • Able to provide structured feedback and support across the early stages of the entrepreneurial journey.

  • Strong ability to build trust and rapport quickly.

  • An interest in small business development and economic empowerment for underrepresented young adults

  • Proven experience as a coach, advisor, mentor, or manager

  • Experience working with low-income young adults (ages 18-29), especially young men and women of color.

Context: Many of our young entrepreneurs are working on self-employment business ideas, primarily in the food, clothing, and general services industries. Our young entrepreneurs often have part-time (or full-time) employment to juggle, and come to us in all stages of business development.

We look forward to meeting you and hearing why you are passionate about what we are doing at Youth Business USA! Send a note to or call Robin @ 510-517-7308 for a quick chat!
