MHAGC Volunteer Manager

Overview

This MHAGC Volunteer Manager is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the MHAGC volunteer and/or internship programs. The volunteer manager will ensure that all essential volunteer positions are filled, and will monitor MHAGC volunteer sources. The volunteer manager will communicate with and monitor active and potential volunteers.

Typical Duties

  • Organize, coordinate and manage the recruitment of volunteers
  • Monitor and maintain MHAGC Volunteer Match web page
  • Communicate with all potential volunteers, and ensure that their experience making contact with MHAGC is a positive one
  • Ensure volunteer referrals are directed to the appropriate MHAGC department
  • Work with social, civic, educational and other local organizations to develop partnerships
  • Develop and implement standardized intake program for all volunteers
  • Maintains updated records on all volunteers, including documentation of work/accomplishments
  • Set up and attend volunteer meetings. Reports to staff on volunteer activities as needed
  • Recommends and develops ongoing volunteer utilization
  • Develops and implements a volunteer recognition program

Time Commitment

  • 1-5+ hours per week - Flexible hours. Ideally, this position is a combination of in-person and remote volunteering. Can be exclusively remote for the right candidate. Preference will be given to Chicago area residents.

General Requirements

  • Volunteer Managers should have supervisory experience from their professional life, or from other volunteer experiences
  • Preference will be given to those with bachelor’s degrees, and experience in fields of education, non-profit management, and/or allied health

We believe that volunteers are front and central to our success as we work to expand our reach and realize our vision. There are a number of steps involved in becoming volunteer:

1) Select a volunteer position!
2) After reviewing your request, we will reach out to you by email to begin the process. Please attach your resume.
3) If you are a good match for a position, you will be invited to come into the MHAGC office for an introductory meeting or to schedule a time to talk on the phone.
4) The volunteer packet will be presented, reviewed and signed. As some of our programs contain information and content that is proprietary, you may be asked to complete a confidentiality and conflict of interest agreement.
5) Volunteering can begin!

Please note: MHAGC volunteer positions focus on leadership, outreach, fundraising, and administration. Other than the support group roles (still in development) we cannot offer volunteer positions that have direct contact with individuals with mental illness or mental health related issues.
