VITAS welcomes you to participate in our 11th Hour Volunteer Program to provide additional interdisciplinary emotional support and create a peaceful presence during the active dying phase for VITAS patients and their families. VITAS volunteers are educated about the active dying phase and can provide special services to our actively dying patient and their families to improve their quality of life. 11th Hour volunteers are used when: A patient is actively dying. Patients have little family or support. And work in the home, nursing facilities, inpatient units and hospitals. And usually stay a shift of several hours based on their availability. 11th hour volunteers: Complete VITAS patient care Volunter Orientation. Have an updated personnel file. Complete VITAS 11th Hour Volunteer Training. Complete a Patient Care Volunteer Note.
