Job Description: Client Services Volunteer
Job Description: Client Services Intern
Program: Client Services
Volunteers will engage in an experiential learning experience through which they learn what is involved in the daily operations of our non-profit organization. Volunteers will interact with and actively assist members of Charlotte’s rapidly growing international population, gaining exposure to a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Additionally, interns will play an integral role in the planning, preparation, and implementation of programs and events. Volunteers will receive training and on-going supervision from the International House Client Services Director and Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteers interested in working for a non-profit or with international populations will benefit from this experience as a result of gaining office management, customer service, and event planning/programming experience. Additional skills that students will likely gain from this experience include cross-cultural competence, interpersonal skills, problem solving, project development, and information management.
Areas interns will gain experience in include:
- Assist with registration for various International House educational programs
- Create and implement promotional and outreach campaigns to promote ESL educational programs and other programming offered by International House
- Serve on event planning team, assisting with event strategizing and preparation; assist in event management and execution during the day of event(s)
- Greet visitors (by phone and in-person), answer their questions, and educate them on helpful resources or programs; refer visitors to appropriate staff members as needed.
- Perform other related duties, as required
Qualifications:
- Desire to work with immigrants and clients of different ethnic and social background
- Excellent client service and communication skills
- Excellent work ethic
- Computer literacy required (proficiency in MS Office and Google Docs)
- Proficiency in Spanish, Arabic or French language highly desirable
Time Commitment:
- Minimum of 12-15 hours per week in 9 a.m. -5 p.m., 9 a.m.-12 noon or 1 p.m. -5 p.m. shifts
- Minimum of at least three or four months strongly preferred

International House is a meeting place where Internationals and Americans can establish and strengthen relationships, and promote cultural awareness by connecting with people who share an interest in language, culture, or ethnicity.
Immigrant Advocacy Program
International House provides legal representation and other resources to guide over 600 low-income internationals through the complexities of U.S. immigration law.
Citizen Diplomacy Programs
International House plays an important role in America's citizen diplomacy efforts by partnering with the U.S. Department of State and United States Agency for International Development to implement two U.S.Government sponsored programs: the International Visitor Leadership Program and Community Connections Program.
