If you haven't visited The Grotto lately, or if you've never been, you're missing out on a spectacular sanctuary that was voted in the Top Ten Destinations in Oregon by Trip Advisor.
With over 62 acres of peaceful gardens, a Gift Shop and the magnificent Chapel of Mary, The Grotto is a beloved sanctuary and an oasis of peace in the middle of Portland, only 10 minutes from downtown.
Volunteers serve in a variety of ways, primarily greeting our visitors, upkeep of the grounds, leading tours of the gardens and special events. If you like interaction with the public in a tranquil setting, we offer four-hour shifts weekdays or weekends, whichever you prefer.
Our volunteers are cherished, and you will receive training, support, and recognition of your service. We also thank our volunteers with an annual Garden Pass after 40 hours of service!
Please contact Agnes Zueger via email, azueger@thegrotto.org to find out more about The Grotto's Volunteer program.

Description
Visitors will discover a peaceful 62 acre retreat near the center of Portland. Lush green firs tower over rhododendron and other native Pacific Northwest flora as you walk toward the central plaza and heart of the sanctuary - Our Lady's Grotto - a magnificent rock cave carved into the base of a 110 foot cliff. A marble replica of Michelangelo's Pieta is featured in its center. On the upper level, visitors will find magnificent panoramic vistas of the Columbia River Valley and Mt. St. Helens. Especially impressive is the 180 degree floor to ceiling view through the beveled glass wall of the Meditation Chapel. Other highlights include a bronze statue, plaques, wood sculptures, and a reflection pond.
