ORGANIZATION: The NY Ave Presbyterian Church

The Radcliffe Room, a New York Avenue Presbyterian Church program that has been lifting up people who live in the streets and shelters of Washington for decades, is seeking regular volunteers to serve food, distribute clothing and be a friend to 100 or so people who need all three. We are open on Sunday mornings from 8:15 to 10, with the first volunteers arriving at 7:00, and the last arriving at 8:15. Sure, Radcliffe Room volunteers rise early, but we have bottomless coffee cups, energizing, rewarding work, and a fantastic community of people. And you still have a full day -- and maybe a well-deserved nap -- to look forward to when you're done.

About The NY Ave Presbyterian Church

Location:

1313 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20005, US

Mission Statement

...We come from across the metropolitan area and witness for peace and justice as a downtown congregation in the center of the nation's capital because of the church's rich history and the challenges offered which help us to grow in our faith... We make our first priority those who are vulnerable: the elderly, the children, the mentally ill, and the homeless. We see the city blocks around us in their busyness as one of our frontiers. We continue to lead vigorously toward social justice and to use our building to promote it. We are called to take a leadership role in the shaping of our downtown neighborhood...

Description

We are a downtown congregation who sponsor multiple community outreach programs, including the longest running one-on-one tutoring program in DC, a JCAHO licenced Day Treatment Center for the chronically mentally ill, and a Meals-on Wheels program, among others.
