There are an estimated 30,000 children in the Chicago area who want and need a positive role model in their lives. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago’s vision is that all children achieve success in life, and that vision cannot be achieved without the help of dedicated volunteers. "The most critical thing we need is great Bigs to support the amazing kids we work with", says CEO Art Mollenhauer. "We need your help to recruit Just 1 Big. That’s all we need".
When describing her Big and what she likes most about the program, Little Sister Katie said, "She gives me someone to confide in, and I’m just so able to talk to her". Little Brother Matthew added, "He’s taught me a sense of how to be a man. He’s taught me responsibility, how to make a good first impression with everyone I meet. And I thank him for that".
Volunteers often find they enjoy the program and get just as much out of it as their Littles. "It’s one of the best ways you can spend your time" says Big Brother Luke. "You’re volunteering and giving something back, but at the same time is very rewarding". Big Sister Leslie adds "We’ve been matched for so many years; I actually can’t imagine my life without her. It’s just like bringing in another family member".
BBBS is always in need of volunteers to serve as Bigs, spending just a few hours several times per month with a Little. All is take is Just 1 Big to make a difference in the life of a child. For more information or to become a Big, contact Alicia Pernaw at 312-207-5615 or Pernaw@bbbschgo.org

Mission Statement
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago's mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.
Description
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago (BBBSChi) carefully matches children and youth "Littles," with positive volunteer mentors, whom we call "Bigs." Throughout the course of their mentoring relationship ("match"), we monitor and support the match, providing safety and quality measures, as well as outcome-based activity ideas and goals. Through the Community Based Program and a variety of Site Based Programs, all Littles receive consistent, long-standing support from a mentor and their dedicated BBBSChi match support specialist.
Matches spend time together engaging in outcome-based activities that intentionally focus on increasing social skills, developing positive behaviors while avoiding risky ones, developing self-esteem, combating isolation, enhancing academic engagement and performance, and planning for the future. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
