General Summary:

The Kid’s Yoga Teacher Intern will gain valuable classroom, yoga, and nonprofit experience. YoKid is a 501(c)3, nonprofit organization created to help under-served kids and teens confront the challenges of stress and obesity by increasing their self-awareness, concentration levels and physical activity through yoga.

Through a competitive process, five interns will be chosen to complete YoKid’s 20-hour teacher training course. Upon completion of the training, the intern will teach 1-4 classes each week at schools, community centers, and kid-friendly establishments in the Greater DC Metro Area. Interns will receive hands on and specific guidance to successfully learn how to teach yoga to kids and teens.

Internship Requirements Include:

~Successful completion of interview and background check

~Submission of 3 letters of recommendation

~Completion of 20-hour teacher certification course

~Implementation of the YoKid weekly lesson plans for each class taught

~Commitment to teach a minimum of 2 yoga classes each week during the 10- month internship. Please note that a minimum of 25 yoga classes is needed to fulfill the requirements of the internship.

Work Environment:

The intern will teach kid/teen yoga classes onsite at various YoKid locations (schools and community centers in Northern VA, DC, Montgomery County, and Prince Georges County Maryland.) The intern’s schedule will be agreed upon before internship acceptance to the internship program.

~This internship will give you classroom experience in teaching yoga to students preK thru 12 th grade.

~Upon completion of training and orientation the intern will be immersed in a learning environment that includes lead teaching, assisting, and observing yoga classes.

~Interns gain experience in communication, differentiating instruction, developing lesson plans, and best practices.

~The internship experience may also be eligible for service learning credit and/or practicum credits.
