Deliver food and friendship to an elder. Can you take hot lunches to a small group of homebound seniors just one morning a month or more often? You make a difference. Please join the fight against senior hunger in your community. Senior Centers: Lead or assist with group activities such as crafts, games, fitness, or lifelong learning. Wellness Workshops: Become a Lay Leader for Living Well: the Stanford University Chronic Disease Self Management Program. Help empower people with chronic conditions to cope with common symptoms such as pain, fatigue, difficult emotions, and stress. Training and full coordination are provided.

Mission Statement

The Northeast Georgiaon Regional Commission/Area Agency on Aging mission is to improve the quality of life for older Northeast Georgians and adults with disabilities, and to assist these individuals in achieving maximum levels of health, independence, and productivity. Special consideration is given to assuring services for those with the greatest social, economic, and health needs.

Description

The Northeast Georgia Regional Commission was designated by the Department of Human Services as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for the Northeast Georgia Region in 1974 to address the needs and concerns of older individuals and their caregivers in the twelve county planning and service area. The Northeast Georgia Area Agency on Aging provides information on and access to home and community based services for elderly and/or disabled persons, their families, and caregivers. The AAA is a resource for education, information, referral, counseling, and general assistance. The AAA contracts with eighteen Service Providers to provide services in the twelve county planning and service area. This includes Senior Center Services and Meals on Wheels Programs that are provided in the following counties: Barrow County, Clarke County, Elbert County, Greene County, Jackson County, Jasper County, Madison County, Morgan County, Newton County, Oconee County, Oglethorpe County, and Walton County. The AAA also contract with agencies that provide the following services throughout the Northeast Georgia Region: Adult Day Care, Mobile Adult Day Care, Senior Community Services Employment training, Long Term care Ombudsman, GeorgiaCares Health Insurance Counseling, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Services, Elderly Legal Assistance, Community Care Services Program, Money Follows the Person Program and Wellness Programs.
