Girl Scouts at Camp

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada hires amazing staff each summer from all over the United States and abroad to work at Camp Wasiu II and our summer outdoor programs.

Would you like to host a pair of international or long-distance American camp staff members in your home this summer? We're looking for families to welcome camp staff in their homes for lengths of time ranging between a weekend and two weeks! Families can host staff members before and after camp as well as during time off.

As an approved host family, you will be asked to make contact with your camp staff members prior to arrival. This is your opportunity to tell them about your family and find out about them ahead of time. You may also ask them for a picture of themselves to make identifying them at the airport a bit easier.

Your family will provide a safe and comfortable place for the staff to stay at your home. A couch, air mattress, futon, or bed will be just fine. Host families are also asked to provide our camp staff with meals during their stay.

Hosting Dates:
June 3 - June 9
June 30 - July 5
July 26 - August 3

To make sure that there is as much continuity for our long-distance camp staff as possible, we try to place staff with families that are able to host for the full season.

Interested? Visit the link below to fill out our Host Family Application. We so appreciate your dedication to Girl Scouting and for providing our camp staff with a welcoming Nevadan host family!

Mission Statement

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who work to make the world a better place.

Description

We’re Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada and we’re excited that you’re here! As your local council, we’re your guide and partner to all things Girl Scouts and we can’t wait to get you started.

But first, you may be wondering a little about us...so here’s what you need to know:

We BELIEVE... in the power of girls. From her first troop sleepover over with her very best friends to hiking the top of Mount Rose to designing her own adventure - our girls find the sparkle that makes them special. We think that’s pretty cool.

We CONNECT...over 96,000 square miles in northern Nevada and northeastern California. That’s Alturas to Tahoe to Bishop, Ely to Elko, and everywhere in between. We have over 4,500 girls and 2,000 volunteers experiencing new adventures every single day and making friendships that will last a lifetime. Teamwork, friendship, and community unite us and we shine so much brighter when we’re together.

We GET INVOLVED...in our communities hundreds of service projects are completed each year! Our girls and volunteers change the world through small acts of kindness and through BIG ideas that make a lasting impact. Serving meals at a soup kitchen, singing holiday carols to bring cheer, and collecting donations for pet shelters are just a few of the awe-inspiring projects that show a girl she can make a difference in the world.
