Mission Statement

To improve the lives and reduce the over-population of homeless cats through TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and adoptions.

Description

Purrfect Cat Catchers concentrates on helping community cats in the towns of Matawan and Aberdeen in Monmouth County, NJ. We are small grass-roots group that currently maintains about 10 colonies of our own. We also help individuals in Matawan/Aberdeen, and sometimes in the neighboring towns, TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) cats that live outside near their homes.

TNR not only helps curb the overpopulation of outdoor or community cats, but it also keeps the colony members healthier. Neutering male cats means that they will no longer have the urge to fight each other to breed with the females. And spaying the females means that they won't have litter after litter of kittens and therefore they will not suffer the health consequences of becoming pregnant too many times. The people in the area are happier because the colony does not grow in size, in fact over time it will be reduced in size as the cats age.

But TNR does not end with spay/neuter. The colony needs to be cared for. Food and water needs to be provided on a daily basis and cats that appear to be ill must be trapped and brought to a vet. Kittens and any cats that are social enough to be handled are removed from the colony and put up for adoption.

It's a lot of hard work caring for a colony but the rewards far outweigh the work!
