Mission Statement
The mission of the Roots in Boots Urban Farm is to provide locally grown organic fruits and vegetables to people living in the Morrisania area of the Bronx, currently a "food desert". We're also going to establish a mentoring program to help residents of the community achieve their full potential. The integration of these two programs provides opportunities for experiential learning, cooperation and growth.
Description
Roots in Boots Urban Farm is in the process of the acquiring the right to develop a 12,200 sq ft site in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. This site will serve as a source of local fruits and vegetables to be given to the residents of the community at no cost. The site will also be a venue for classes in nutrition, cooking, practical skills, etc. Additionally we'll be hosting cultural events for local musicians and artists. The mentoring program will be 8 sessions designed to help people set goals and achieve those goals.
