Halloween Celebration

English For Action's OurSchool Family Literacy program is seeking passionate, creative and energetic educators and community members to mentor amazing Olneyville youth. OurSchool is an after-school arts-literacy program working with Latino youth ages 3-12. In collaboration with the English for Action's ESOL Program (English Speakers of Other Languages) youth are engaged in arts-based literacy and other creative activities while their parents participate in ESOL classes. Using a participatory approach, we develop lessons based both on the interests of our learners and the passions and skills of our mentors.

We place an emphasis on developing strong mentoring relationships, creativity, community-building, and leadership development for both the youth and mentors. Ultimately we aim to create a classroom community that is affirming and supportive to each community member, build pride and confidence in the OurSchool youth, and encourage the Ourschool youth to think critically about their community and education.

OurSchool needs creative and energetic Mentors to volunteer 6-10 hours per week per semester. OurSchool takes place from 6:30-8:30pm Monday-Thursday. Mentors can commit to mentoring 2-4 nights per week, and are required to come to a weekly Mentor Meeting. All skills and experiences welcomed. Knowing Spanish is great, but not required!
